At least now when I go to the display adapter properties I see the correct driver and I can select a more appropriate display resolution. I guess windows 10 doesn’t support my graphics card??? Now the display looks as if it is in safe mode. It shows that it has a Microsoft Display Adapter.

I cannot run simple stuff, like solitaire, etc. I am not a gamer, nor do I use the computer for anything really intensive. However, I cannot find an updated driver, or really cannot find the actual model of the graphics that the computer came with. I ran HP support assistant and it found no updated drivers. I would really not want to get a new computer just yet, as it works okay anyway. So:: are there updated drivers that would help? Do I need a whole new graphics card?

After a short holiday, I returned home to find that my computer’s display, normally p, had reverted to x A little investigation shows that under “display adapter properties” in the Display control panel, the adapter type is appearing as “Microsoft Basic Display Driver. When I try to update the driver it tells me I already have the latest driver. But in the display adapter properties it still says “Microsoft Basic Display Driver.

Since I wasn’t home when this happened, I can only imagine some automatic Windows update triggered the problem. But how can I fix it? I’ve installed all available Windows updates and I still seem to be stuck with the basic display driver.

I may have figured out a solution for the time being. From there, I saw a list of drivers, some of them with dates. The ones from didn’t work, but selecting one from did. At least now when I go to the display adapter properties I see the correct driver and I can select a more appropriate display resolution.
