White Balance is often the first adjustment made to almost any photo and it has two potential uses, a corrective one and an artistic one. Interestingly, this can actually be quite tricky to spot because our brains compensate for lighting!
And very often, just fixing the white balance will make a huge difference to any photo. Below are examples of photos with a blue and orange tint and what the photos look like with that tint removed using the White Balance adjustment. Before White Balance Adjustment.

Usually, when correcting white balance, blue is added to neutralize a yellow tint and vice versa and green is added to neutralize a magenta tint and vice versa.
In Pixelmator Pro, you can correct white balance automatically simply by clicking the ML button. When you do, Pixelmator Pro uses a machine learning algorithm trained on millions of image pairs! The next adjustment is Lightness, which lets you improve the lighting of your photo by editing exposure, highlights, shadows, brightness, contrast, and black point. When taking photos, it can often be difficult to correctly expose every part of a scene. For example, when taking a photo of a landscape, if the sky is correctly exposed, the land can often be underexposed too dark and if the land is correctly exposed, the sky can often be overexposed too light.
Using an image editor like Pixelmator Pro, you can often fix things like that. Below you can see two photos, one which was overexposed too bright and one which was underexposed too dark alongside versions of the photo where the exposure is a little better.

Apply a Color Controls effect. The Color Controls effect lets you adjust the saturation, brightness, and contrast of your selected layer.
