Is there a watermark in the bottom right corner of desktop? If not then you don’t have Insider build. If you have Insider build then you’ll also want to check Permanent Activation status as distinct from the Insider build activation:. This will tell you if its permanently activated, which is the state it needs to be after free Upgrade before doing the Clean Install Windows If permanently activated then you have Windows 10 free Upgrade activated because there was originally an upgrade to Insider build made from Windows 7 or 8.
If you never had Insider builds you don’t say then the tech may have enabled them, possibly to activate following the new feature to do so directly with Product key in Insider Build If you are not permanently activated then you may have never been. Please advise us if you know for sure differently. Then if you don’t want Insider build any longer, you can opt-out in Advanced Update settings. Was this reply helpful? However, when I get to “where to keep” windows, three options are provided. I have many licensed apps on my laptop, and I really don’t want to restore it to factory settings.
This will be costly and time consuming, and all of this happened because a Microsoft support tech changed the edition without permission. A Clean Install is done best by booting the media, deleting all partitions to get it cleanest during the install as discussed in Clean Install Windows However if you feel you can’t do this now then we can look for another solution.

I’ll let you know what I hear as soon as they reply, probably Monday. There should be no reason why you could not opt-out of Insider builds since you’re permanently activated, so it should revert to RTM. But since there’s such an anomaly here possibly affected by deep corruption of the install which brought you to Support in the first place, and you’re not amenable to getting the best install of all at this time, then we should probably wait to hear from those who built the OS.
I tried to permanently opt out of Insider Build, but it didn’t let me. I don’t know if this will help, but the tech did go on the cmd prompt window and did a couple of things before the upgrade to the insider version took place.
However, I don’t recall the commands that he inserted. So it sounds like he was doing typical troubleshooting. However I cannot imagine how he switched you to Insider build unless he had just been briefed that is a way to activate with the new build those Upgrades refusing the activate. Any chance yours wasn’t activated? I’m not sure there’s a way to get out of the Insider build by Going Back to Previous Build in Recovery settings, although since permanently activated you can always Clean Install Windows The report here Change Win 7 Home 32 bit to 64 bit before upgrading to Win 10 – Microsoft Community says he was only given the choice in going back to save nothing but he wanted a Clean Install anyway.

I’m in the process of installing the removed apps so it’s taking a while. I currently have windows 10 Home. I’d like to thank you for the effort and time you put in; you were definitely more helpful than the Microsoft Support Techs. You’re most welcome.
