This new release is an evolutionary upgrade. With this release you can achieve significantly better image quality, you get refined local adjustments tools, experience some user interface and workflow improvements, and last but not least you now have good keyword handling.
The moment I started beta testing this release I was immediately hooked, reluctant to go back to Capture One Pro 8. The new version felt more smooth to operate. Image quality seems initially just a little improved until I discovered what is under the hood. The results you can achieve with this release are so breathtaking that all previous versions pale by comparison and look dated.
This product is aimed at the high-end and everybody who feels attached to that goal. The new core Engine 9 is literally at the heart of the machine. Half of the new features are unlocked through this new engine.
So when you open older images, adjusted with an earlier version, do not forget to upgrade the engine in the Base Characteristics tool. Of course, you can select multiple images and upgrade them all at once. New images automatically use the new Engine 9. But the Curve tool is a bit cumbersome to use. High contrast settings now have less effect on color which tended to oversaturate, in particular in dark areas dark skin tones for example.
That does not mean I will leave the Curve tool alone. I am a big fan of the Curve tool see also Create your Atmosphere with Curves and was very curious to try the new Luma curve in this tool. All the work that is done for the improved Contrast engine does also apply to the new Luma curve tool.
For me, the Luma curve replaces the RGB curve most of the time. The RGB curve affects all three color channels simultaneously and equally but that does not mean that colors are not affected. A high contrast RGB curve increases color contrast as well. The Luma curve does not. The Luma curve adjusts luminance, not color.
As a result, the colors stay natural and balanced when adjusting the Luma curve. I am stunned by the results. It really shows how flexible the Capture One Pro engine is.
If you liked the curve tool already, you will love it even more! For me, this feature alone is worth the upgrade. But hold on, there is more: the Curve tool can be used on an adjustment layer for local adjustments!
To improve your workflow while doing local adjustments, Capture One Pro 9 has some interesting enhancements. Note that all new features affect both the brush and the eraser. Listed for an overview the features are:. First, if you alternate between both brush and eraser to create your mask, you will no doubt like the Link Brush and Eraser Settings option in the brush settings.
This will link all the properties on the settings dialog for both brush and eraser. Changing a setting for the brush will update the same setting for the eraser and vice versa. Deselect it when you do not need it anymore and brush and eraser each save their own settings again. Second, you have an Airbrush checkbox setting. This is handy when you have a soft brush or eraser. Such a brush has a halo with an inner circle, fading out to the outer circle. With the Airbrush option set, the mask will grow towards the outer circle depending on how long you keep it in one place.
In other words, the airbrush setting is time-related. This means you can control how Flow operates. Flow is related to the opacity of the brush.
Capture One Pro Review | Image Editing Software
Many say that Capture One actually outperforms Lightroom in terms of both speed and stability. You can apply Styles to enhance curves, saturation and tonal adjustments in your images — all without changing key capture parameters like exposure and white balance. There are several Styles available by famous photographers, helping you emulate their color grading. One of the huge benefits of using Fujifilm X-series camera are the built-in film simulations like Acros, Classic Chrome, Velvia etc.
Capture One 12 now adds the ability to change the starting point of your editing to one of the film simulations, as Curves within the Base Characteristics Tool. There are a few places where Capture One falls short. For those of us who use them regularly, this could be an issue. Into Nik or Topaz filters? No go. Use any of the fantastic portrait packages out there? Too bad. Capture One only has a few third-party plugins and no ability to do HDR or panoramas. No fun.
One thing new in version 12, though, though, is export plug-in support. The history panel is a tool I use often. While Capture One lets you undo edits and easily reset adjustments more easily than Lightroom, actually , not having a history panel really cramps my style. There are workarounds, like creating a number of clone variants, etc.
One of these is that when I rename a file, it moves to somewhere else in the catalog, which can get annoying when trying to compare a series of photos. This bothers me, as it forces me to go to another program if I need one. There are also no online sharing options, which will definitely affect some folks. The bottom line? Studio photographers might also choose to organize by sessions rather than the catalog.
Also, if you need precise and powerful keywording options, Lightroom has this part nailed. However, you are able to buy Capture One Pro 12 outright, which is more than we can say for Lightroom…. I have been using Capture One 22 for about a month now and I still cannot grasp many of its important features, especially cataloging, exporting, root folders, etc.. It is way too complex, the interface looks friendly but is in fact not intuitive. I have used many software including Darktable 3. Here is a very simple example, when importing a file I need to go through three different steps, and the final Import button is located at the lower part of the screen while the image is way at the top.
Did someone forget that photo editor use large screens? I find myself moving the mouse across a large screen in many situations.
Another frustrating issue is the cataloging, holy molly!! I need to change the root folder. This makes no sense whatsoever. It may be a good photography editor, OK. But overpriced. And the problem is that they are constantly trying to force you to upgrade to the new version.
And when you try to reinstall in a new computer the version 20 for example and you cannot find it for download in their website and contact them to complain they send you a link but you only can download not the pro version that you purchased but a version express forSony whose link they sent you… Not recommended, they are not trustable.
Fed up! Since Lightroom 6 is a 32 bit application it will not run on current Mac OS so C1 looks like a very enticing option. I tried Luminar and that was a waste of money since they could not provide basic functions that they promised a few years ago. I am going to go the C1 trial route. Thank you for this review, it was very helpful. Great review. Thank you! I use a XP-Pen Deco Pro drawing tablet almost exclusively when processing images and it works well with capture one.
Thanks for the helpful review. Capture One 20 is now out, which tilts the comparison even more heavily away from Lightroom and towards Capture One, afaict. You are right, that Capture One is more complex to learn. However, the possibilities and control you have of the photo editing process once you get a grip of how it works is really priceless. I feel that with programs like LR or DXO Photolab, that are very easy to learn, there is also not much possibility to enhance both you editing process or workflow from there, after you learned the app in 30 minutes time.
Online training sites have a similar bias, making the learning curve far more challenging for programs from anyone but Adobe. For the photographer considering the switch to Capture One, this is a superb book that will outline pros and cons and then give a quick view of the program and its workflow.
Erni does a superb job in measuring the pros and cons of the software. One thoughtful warning from the start is to recognize one major limitation of Capture One- it cannot read DNG files unless they are native. For those who have converted their libraries of raw images to DNG, this could easily be a deal-breaker, making the book a great bargain before even investing in the program.
Why consider Capture One? If you want to make a specific effect on your photos, you can do so with the right settings. It is also easy to use for those who are not computer experts.
When you are using Capture One Pro 9 Torrent, you will discover a lot of tools that allow you to manipulate, edit, or enhance your photo. If you want to retouch a photo in a very specific way, you can edit the photo and change the background, add text, change colors, or change the size. You can even choose to make the background lighter or darker. You can even add filters to an image. There are many different effects, from basic photo transformations to special effects.
Capture One Pro 9 offers the dark background and remarkable tool sets of digital photography application; however, its layout focuses on efficient workflow. Mostly, it uses brings used features like the Focus Mask and searchable Filters. The app is stuffed with excellent characteristics of set and image. As it has geared up to experienced photographers, yet it is more reasonable than the most photo equipment in the access of skilled amateurs.
