I have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on 10 of my users desktops and as soon as they go to verify redactions the memory on the machine goes off the charts and then I get. While that may seem counterintuitive at first, what might be happening is a memory leak issue that is part of some versions of Adobe’s family of products. In. This has been a problem in Adobe Acrobat Pro since and is stili not fixed. But it is Adobe LOL pay lots of money for software that doesn’t work correctly!

X card and M2 was a RT. Steve Bland said: I have had my most success avoiding the error by turning off any and all thumbnails both in the assets pane and in the timeline. Also, dont show the audio waveform. Susan Greeves said: I had this problem. Find the folder where Adobe keeps the rendered files. This will contain a separate folder for every project that you have ever worked on!
Delete all the empty folders. The remaining folders can either be deleted or moved to another drive if you are not working with them any more. You can always move them back if you need them. Premiere is whizzing along now. For me, the culprit is almost always an asset that falls outside of what Adobe can handle.
Here’s an example: Stills: If I keep the size below x at 72dpi, I can do just about anything with the image like pans, opacity changes, etc. Bigger, or denser, and I sometimes get the OOM message. Try this: create a x at dpi black solid in photoshop, save as. Out of memory. Change the size in photoshop to the size I said above, no problem.
If you just put the solid on the timeline without fades or opacity changes, it amy work, or maybe not. Also, lately PP has a nasty habit of changing the fps on some footage from Looks ok in the preview window but once you try ot output: out of memory. Now it happens a lot and at times with only files open which is not a lot for me.
I am running win 7. This is crazy. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Does anyone here know if the PDF they’re having problems with was scanned and may have been susceptible to being rotated by the scanner? I have a scenario where within a single document provided by others i have some pages that are letter sized forms in portrait orientation and then some pages that are larger sized pages in landscape orientation.
Typically, large drawings are printed in portrait and have to be rotated, so i’m assuming that the pages in my PDF that are drawings were rotated some how. When scrolling through the PDF, I get the “Out of Memory” error as soon as i hit one of the drawing pages again, which i assume are rotated. So i’m fairly certain that the application isn’t out of memory, but that it’s just throwing that message up as a result to whatever it can’t handle.

Solved: Re: Out of Memory – Adobe Support Community –
That is limited to approximately 3GB, even in bit versions of Windows, for bit applications. Acrobat and Reader are bit applications under Windows. The MacOS version is already a bit application and doesn’t suffer from this memory problem since it was updated! I’ll repeat what I indicated previously:. For better or worse, I will amend this to be well before the pandemic is over. Third-party plug-in developers are already working on the bit versions of their products to work with the bit version of Acrobat.
This is not wishful thinking or vapourware of any type. Completing this work is a top priority within Adobe’s Acrobat Engineering organization. But it won’t be released until we know it really works and solves the problems we have with the bit version.
Thank you for your swift and somewhat reassuring reply. My apologies too for some of the snark in my first thread, which was admittedly written in a bout of frustration during my work. I do need the professional version, to convert photo’s into.
The odd thing is that some weeks everything works fine, and other days I can barely get any work done before it happens again. It might probably depend too on the specific PDF I am opening. Try this first. It took me two hours to get a response from Adobe Tech support who simply said “do this”. Thanks for the suggestion, but that is highly unlikely the source or the solution to an application running out of virtual memory address space. This setting controls a situation in which Windows doesn’t properly access all the physical memory available on a system.
However when you are willing to provide us with a real solution, we are all ears. Im just trying to help my fellow acrobat users who are having difficulties and are frustrated by Adobes lack of response and solutions. We have responded if you read the entire thread.

It is designed to be flexible, and Adobe Acrobat is the primary way PDFs tend to display their information. Acrobat is a family of programs that helps people create, edit, view, or print PDF files.
In some cases, users might get error messages related to Adobe Acrobat products being out of memory. We will discuss why this might be, and we will also address some other common issues related to high CPU usage. This can cause the whole program to become very sluggish, and you may be met with stutters or general unresponsiveness.
In some cases, Acrobat may crash completely. If it does, your memory usage should revert to normal, but you may find that it increases again once you reopen the program. There are a few possible culprits for something like this happening, though some may be easier to fix than others.
This is because it could be caused by glitches in whichever version of Acrobat you are running , or it could be a case of some problem with its interaction with your operating system itself. We mention these possibilities because the memory issue could be an instance of instability in the program rather than a setting that you can fix with a few tweaks.
How you manage to fix the memory usage or allocation issues with Acrobat can depend on how the problem is originating from within your system.
Adobe Acrobat is updated periodically, and newer versions are released for public use. When this happens, there can be some issues in how the program decides to use the available memory on your system. It should not come anywhere close to all or nearly all of the total memory at your disposal. However, manipulating several larger documents can cause memory increases that are normal. If you do find very large memory spikes that are slowing down your system, this could be a sign that there is a problem with Acrobat.
In such cases, it is possible that the only solution is to get a fix from the developer once one rolls out. Part of the reason for this has to do with optimization.
In some versions of Adobe Acrobat, things are not necessarily optimized to run the best on more modern central processing units. One of the things you might be able to do here is to check with Adobe itself to see if there is a patch or fix you can download and install. Memory leak issues are not uncommon to some Adobe applications, and different users across multiple platforms can experience them. Because this instance of leakage can jump between platforms, computer models, and operating systems, it means that the developers are usually aware of the issue far earlier than other bugs that might crop up.
In turn, there are already fixes for some memory leak problems that might plague different versions of Acrobat. A good first step is to check the internet to see if such a problem has been reported with the version you are using. The security updates section might be a good place to start.
There might be a way to get rid of the error messages by tweaking the paging or swap files. We say that it is possible, but it is important to note that the operating system should handle the paging file dynamically on its own.
This means that the allocation of virtual memory file sizes is something that should go up or down as needed. In fact, trying to mess with these things manually is one of the possible causes of getting the memory error.
It would seem counterintuitive, then, to suppose that making some adjustments here could be the solution. Because there is a swap file area that is dynamic, it can interact with Acrobat in such a way that your drive becomes fragmented over time.
This may be related to the memory leak issue, but the result should be the same regardless of the cause. Once this fragmentation starts to occur, even the free space that could normally allocate itself to an application that uses high amounts of memory can become fragmented as well. When this happens, you could get memory errors from programs like Acrobat.
While the best approach here is to let your operating system take care of the paging file, you may need to alter it manually in order to get rid of the error. If you do decide to make the alterations, it is a good idea to get into the habit of defragmenting your drive on a regular basis as well.
