Failed virus detected windows 10. Failed – Virus Detected on Windows 10 & 11
I tried to download a file recently on a Windows 10 Fall Creators Update system using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox, and could not because all blocked the file download because of a virus that was detected during the security scan. Chrome displayed “Failed – Virus detected”, Microsoft Edge “[filename] contained a virus and was deleted”, and Firefox simply “failed” in the user interface.
Windows Defender was the security program on the machine, and a quick check revealed that the built-in security tool was indeed responsible for blocking the file download on the machine. I knew that this was a false positive, and the following failed virus detected windows 10 describe how I tried to get the file to download to the system.
Select scan history afterwards. Windows Defender may list there that there are not any current failed virus detected windows 10. This may be puzzling at first, but the security program lists only threats there that require user decisions. Since the downloaded file was quarantined automatically, no user action is required which in turn means that there are not any current threats. The list of quarantined threats is below.
If you are lucky, you may see the virus that Windows Defender detected when it scanned the file download. The file name is not listed there however but the date may be sufficient to make an educated guess. Failed virus detected windows 10 click on the row displays options to restore the file or remove it, and to display details.
Details displays the file failed virus detected windows 10, but it may not be enough to identify the file, as Windows Defender may display a temporary name. Remove deletes the file from the quarantine, restore on the other hand may restore it on the system so that you may access it. The current version of Windows Defender Security Center has quite a few issues in this regard.
I mentioned the lack of details already, but it is just one of the issues that you may run into. Windows Defender Security Center limits the threats to five on that page.
While you can click on “see full history” to display all items that the security program quarantined, you will notice right away that the buttons to remove or restore files are missing there. What you can try is clear the history, and retry the download.
It happens that failed virus detected windows 10 get a failed download due to the detection of a virus, but no immediate listing under quarantined threats. The whole process of unblocking files that you want to download that Windows Defender blocked is complicated and to a degree broken. Why are not there options to remove or restore files in the full history, why do I need to click multiple times to find out more about a threat, and why are not threats listed sometimes in the main interface where you can restore them?
Very very annoying.! Two concerns here — recovery and false positive. A pain either way. Temporary moral?
To try to prove a false positive result suspected OK, run against another antivirus application. Windows Defender since day 1, and still is, the worse ever security application. So, for a brief shining moment, Windows Defender worked properly? I suppose hiring some trained professional testers is not on the table because their contempt for their failed virus detected windows 10 makes it an unjustifiable expense. I wonder how much farther they can fall. Smart people do not use Windows They use Windows 8.
Back in AprilI completely forklift 2.5 t download Defender and would never re-enable it. Instead, I prefer to run on-demand scans, and scan everything through, like, Virustotal. Common sense is нажмите чтобы перейти what you need, not nannying on the part of Microsoft.
If you have McAfee or any virus protection, call them. The problem might be related to that anti-virus software. The lack of configuration or levels of blocking malwares or potential ones will not go in favour of the Windows security adoption…. Failed virus detected windows 10
I have noticed that I am having difficulty downloading certain things such as pictures and some updates, this seems to have started a week ago, although I didn’t realise it at the time. I’ve searched online and tried a couple of things like changing windows update to ‘automatic’ rather than ‘manual’ which is was on using the services.
I’ve disabled Windows Defender too as I have a different Firewall and Antivirus I use and have used for several years, and still no joy. In Windows Update it states my last update was Tonight I have just downloaded two software updates and one driver update which was successful.
I am trying to update Glary’s Utilities as this has two updates neither of which will install, when I try to download that or a picture, all it keeps saying is couldn’t install. Thank you for you replying. I have tried the first stage but as mentioned in my post, it won’t download, it just states ‘couldn’t download virus scan failed’ so unable to try that unless it can be run online?
I can confirm I have now tried two out of the 3 steps the first as I said I can’t download and still have the same issue, ‘can’t download – virus scan failed’ and have found it’s been going on since at least the 6. It seems my only options are to take it back to the shop to replace as it’s under guarantee but as the pc itself is not faulty, I can’t imagine they will replace this.
Do a system restore which means it could end up being downloaded again and me having the same issue. Or alternatively, take back to factory settings which I also don’t want to do as I may lose the apps that came with the pc when purchased.
Thank you for your post. I have checked and am currently running the latest version of Windows which was installed on In terms of the link you have provided, if it means downloading, I can’t download anything so won’t be able to try this. But I don’t know what to look for within the anti virus with regards to seeing if it’s blocking me from downloading, can you be more specific with regards this please? I haven’t had the opportunity to try what you have suggested in the message immediately above yet.
However, I have now installed Opera to try this someone downloaded and gave it to me and made this my default browser and successfully downloaded the things that I couldn’t do before. Thank you for your help, I will still try for Edge as it is my preferred browser, but at least I know I can now update essential software for my pc.

In reply to Paloma Bianchini’s post on December 18, Hi Thank you for you replying. In reply to togorman’s post on December 18, Further to the above, I was using Avast antivirus which I have used since getting the pc with no problem.
I tried uninstalling this and restarting and still same error message. I’m now having to use Windows Defender as I am unable to redownload Avast. Clearly an update has caused this and if I knew which one, I would uninstall it. Time Lady Independent Advisor. Which Windows 10 build are you running – , , or 20H2 Oct ? You may have to disable or even uninstall the AV software to test whether it is affecting downloads. Another suggestion is to try an in-place repair: I recommend an in-place upgrade repair.
Please note a repair install is not a reset, this is a last attempt at repairing a PC without a clean install. If this fails to repair the problem then usually a clean install is required. Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information.
