Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it. Please let me know if you have any more questions. The same for Linq-to-SQL. No migration path, no support on. For VB. Net it is even worse because there the situation is very very very unclear. The last post on the VB. Net blog dates from March 11, and was titled Visual Basic support planned for. NET 5. That is more than 2 year ago. Sometimes I wonder if you guys really want customers, you seem to be very good in not listening to them.
If this is something that will be available as an alpha soon, I can provide some feedback on it probably starting this summer. Woah this is huge news if it eventuates. Here here! It would be great that when a new VS is released all the tools work.
You should provide your feedback over on their VS Marketplace page but I know they are already hearing about it. Hence why I said that is the SQL team and they are working on it. NET is not dead.
There are many of us who still use it in large-scale applications like VMIX or like the one I develop. Tried different machines — same.
It must be one more bug that they forgot to fix in this release. Same issue like everyone else. I similarly get the installer Vs and VS behave the same stuck on donwloading installer. Almost exactly the same here. Trying again in a few hours or tomorrow…. I have the same issue. I cannot update to Looks like this have the situation for at least a day and a half now. Some feedback from MS on this problem please?
I have the same issue — any news on this? We apologize for any inconvenience this is causing. I believe that fixing all the bugs would be the biggest feature of all, and also the one that would increase productivity the most. That is even better than getting a new laptop replacement. Maybe a big push from the whole VS team to go all in bootcamp for 2 months to see who can fix the most amount of bugs. Then they ask you to do their test job and reproduce it for them and give them the steps and a solution.
And then they hope to go away by itself. Or they also ask you to test it in the latest preview. I report bugs at a rate of week. And is only for VS This is getting tiring. Why should people bother, when you pay lip service to feedback. As others have said — the support staff always seem to ask that you go to the nth degree to reproduce problems for them, even when they can be seen sometimes via a simple hello world level app, compiling with default or standard settings.
Surely as developers, your staff must know the importance of exactness in bug reporting and responses. Talk to Nick, John, Mads. People are furious — not with the technical bug reporting tools, but the Microsoft staff and process — which is anything but transparent. Most of the issues come with large solutions, 20 projects in multiple technologies, a number of refactorings and git merges pull, pushes and branch merges.
Also, Solutions that go from version to version of VS and upgrades of nuget packages. Upgrades may corrupt. Many issues temporarily go away after restarting VS or deleting. VS should improve the telemetry. Also, the button to report an issue should be able to upload a VS dump. Please, focus on fixing issues and improving the VS telemetry to capture the required information that you will need to investigate the problem automatically.
Also, create a few large solutions with a number of dependencies, technologies and nuget packages to use during testing. Continue upgrading those large solutions to the latest versions to surface upgrading issues. A lot of new features of dubious usefulness, while every 2 hours of work we have to close and reopen visual studio because it eat up 4 Gb of RAM and more, and slows down until it becomes unusable.
Totally agree!!! VS is becoming more and more like a product from early 90s. I have exactly the same question. The amount of bugs in VS is ridiculous and nobody cares, but the new stuff that really nobody wanted keep coming out. Now … the same thing. Hi Ferdinando, Thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback! We currently only have snippets support in the Razor editor for C but feel free to file an issue so we can prioritize this on our backlog!
You continue to make efforts to make us abandon your tools! Not everyone wants clouds either. WebException: The operation has timed out. This update appears to have broken the installer or there are so many people downloading that the servers are flooded. If the servers are flooded is because everyone is hoping that they have fixed some of the bugs that they had. In the Visual Studio See the last paragraph in the post here on the updates for The same problem. These guys forced down own throats their magical online installers, now VS is corrupted in the middle of the upgrade so I cannot undo it or reinstall, because everything is online now.
So far, I have wasted more than 10 hours trying to reinstall Visual Studio. NetCore including. Net 5 and. Net 6 ,. Net Framework, and multi-target projects are also supported. CodeRush Templates make it easier to create new tests with a simple keystroke , while Code Coverage helps your entire team find problem areas in the code. You can even reveal line-by-line coverage details if you like. Free Download Training Videos. I cannot imagine development without CodeRush.
I like the seamless integration in Visual Studio. The feature most used is the TestRunner which is far ahead of Test Explorer. After more than a decade of using CodeRush, it still is my 1 must-have extension for Visual Studio. CodeRush and DevExpress controls have become my major set of developer tools. Their controls are a cut above the rest no holds barred. Their tech support is top notch in the industry also.
You will not be disappointed in the results you get from using these tools. Wonderful tool that helps me a lot with my coding. Awesome software! Very customizable and easy to use and if you can’t find something their support is some of the best that I have ever come across. Fast, reliable response times! Always a pleasure to use, tons of useful features without being a performance drag. They also listen to use feedback and respond quickly with fixes. The price is super affordable for what this thing does.
Highly recommended! Every version of CodeRush is available free-of-charge. When you register for a free DevExpress product such as CodeRush , you can use your registered product for as long as you need. Updates that are issued free-of-charge can also be used indefinitely. The number of settings has been astronomical for a long time. Thanks for all your hard work.

April 11th, 0. Next we will use the world-class Visual Studio debugger and the Visual Studio DirectX graphics debugger and profiler to catch and fix issues in the code. Finally, we will talk about how to test your DirectX game and collaborate with your team members using Visual Studio. First, download Visual Studio and launch the Visual Studio installer.
The pre-selected components are highly recommended. Here are the two recommended components and the rest of the optional components that are useful for building DirectX games:. Select one template and click OK. You should see a colored 3D cube spinning on your screen. To build a DirectX desktop app, you can start with the Win32 Project template in the New Project dialog, or download a Win32 game template , or download a sample from DirectX11 samples or DirectX12 samples as a starting point.
Member list and Quick Info , as shown in the following screenshot, are just two examples of the IntelliSense features Visual Studio offers to make code writing easier and faster. Member list shows you a list of valid members from a type or namespace. Quick Info displays the complete declaration for any identifier in your code. Refactoring, Auto-complete, squiggles, reference highlighting, syntax colorization, code snippets are some of the other useful productivity features to be of great assistance in code writing and editing.
Navigating in large codebases and jumping between multiple code files can be a tiring task. In the example in the screenshot, Visual Studio brings in the definition of the CreateInputLayout method that lives in the d3d1. The Visual Studio shader editor recognizes HLSL, FX, and other types of shader files, and provides syntax highlighting and braces auto-completion, making it easier to read and write shader code. Debugging shader code from a captured frame is another great way to pinpoint the source of rendering problems.
Simply set a breakpoint in your shader code and press F5 to debug it. You can inspect variables and expressions in Locals and Autos windows. Troubleshooting issues in the code can be time-consuming. Use the Visual Studio debugger to help find and fix issues faster. When the breakpoint is hit, you can watch the value of variables and complex expressions in the Autos and Watch windows as well as in the data tips on mouse hover, view the call stack in the Call Stack window, and step in and step out of the functions easily.
In the example in the screenshot below, the Autos window is showing us the data in the constant buffer and the value of each member of the device resource object instance, making stepping through DirectX code easy and efficient. But that is not all what the Visual Studio debugger can do. Rendering problems can be very tricky to troubleshoot. You can inspect each DirectX event, graphics object, pixel history, and the graphics pipeline to understand exactly what occurred during the frame.
Learn more about Visual Studio Graphics Diagnostics. If you are looking for ways to increase the frame rate for your DirectX games, Visual Studio Frame Analysis can be very helpful. It analyzes captured frames to look for expensive draw calls and performs experiments on them to explore performance optimization opportunities for you. The results are presented in a useful report, which you can save and inspect later or share with your team members.
For more information on how to use this tool, see blog post Visual Studio Graphics Frame Analysis in action! While the Frame Analysis tool can help pinpoint the expensive draw calls, understanding how your game performs on the CPU and the GPU in real-time is essential as well.
